Feenie had a split in what he wanted to be when he grew up. Initially, he wanted to be a hockey player, which he did become and still plays, and at the same time, he started cooking when he was in high school during an exchange program in Europe.
He gained more interest in cooking and attended Dubrulle Culinary Institute, now renamed as Art Institute of Vancouver. After graduating, he worked as a sous chef for various restaurants including, Rim Rock Café and Le Crocodile, among others in Vancouver. He also worked outside Canada in France and the United States of American.
After experiencing the other parts of the world, he came back to Canada and opened his first restaurant in Crowne Plaza Hotel. In 1995, Rob Feenie then partnered with Luminere and formed Luminere and Feenie’s restaurant in Vancouver. This hotel was successful and won an award, including Relais Gourmand designation in 2000 and Traditions et Qualitè awards in 2003.
